A BREAKDOWN OF THE ARTIST/S :-

Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1962 as the Rhythm And Blues Quartet, the band featured Spencer Davis (Born 17 July 1941, Swansea, South Wales; guitar/vocals), Steve Winwood (Born 12 May 1948, Birmingham, England; guitar/organ/vocals), Muff Winwood (Born Mervyn Winwood, 15 June 1943, Birmingham, England; bass) and Pete York (Born 15 August 1942, Middlesbrough, Cleveland, England; drums). School teacher Davis, the elder Winwood brother and drummer York were already experienced performers with backgrounds in modern and traditional jazz, blues, and skiffle. The band were gradually dwarfed by the younger Winwood's immense natural musical talent. While they were much in demand on the fast-growing club scene as performers, their bluesy/pop records failed to sell, until they made a breakthrough in 1965 with "Keep On Running", which reached number 1 in the UK. This was followed in quick succession by another chart-topper, "Somebody Help Me", and three more notable hits, "When I Come Home", "Gimme Some Lovin'", and "I'm A Man".

In keeping with 60s pop tradition they also appeared in a low-budget UK film, The Ghost Goes Gear. Throughout their career they were managed by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records. Amid press reports and months of speculation, Steve Winwood finally left to form Traffic in 1967. A soundtrack album, Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush, released that year, ironically had both Traffic and the Spencer Davis Group sharing the billing. Muff Winwood also left, joining Island as head of A&R. Davis soldiered on with the addition of Phil Sawyer, who was later replaced by guitarist Ray Fenwick from After Tea and Eddie Hardin (keyboards). The latter had an uncannily similar voice to Steve Winwood. They were unable to maintain their previous success but had two further minor hits, "Mr Second Class" and the richly psychedelia-phased "Time Seller". After a number of line-up changes including Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson, Hardin And York departed to form their own band, and enjoyed some success mainly on the continent during the progressive boom of 1969-70. Davis eventually went to live in America where he became involved in the business side of music, working in A&R for various major record companies.

The Davis/York/Hardin/Fenwick team re-formed briefly in 1973 with the addition of Charlie McCracken (ex-Taste) on bass and made a further two albums. The infectious single "Catch Me On The Rebop' almost become a belated hit. Today, York can still be found playing in various jazz style bands; his acknowledged talent as a drummer being regularly in demand. Spencer Davis is still making the occasional album from his base on the west coast of America. Muff Winwood went on to become head of Artist Development at CBS Records, with signings including Shakin" Stevens, Bros, Paul Young and Terence Trent D'Arby. Steve Winwood, after progressing through Blind Faith and Airforce, became a highly successful solo artist. In 1997, Davis was touting a new version of the band, which included the original drummer York together with ex-Keef Hartley Band vocalist/guitarist Miller Anderson.

THE RARITY OF THE RECORD :- One of The Spencer Davis Groups rarest albums, extremely rare and only sold in minimal amounts on release and then deleted, virtually impossible to find copies in good condition.

THE COVER :- Single laminated flipback sleeve

THE LABEL :- Black rough textured Fontana label

THE VINYL VISUALLY :- On initial inspection the heavyweight vinyl sits perfectly flat on the turntable!! and retains an original very deep glossy shine, there are one or two surface marks but it still looks clean for a 44 year old record!! I cannot see any other areas of concern

THE VINYL PLAY GRADED :- On play grading this fantastic record I have found it to be a very clear and vibrant sound that hasn't lost any of it's magic over the past 44 years.These heavyweight 60's vinyls deliver a very rich and clear sound that were indicitive of the era. The record certainly hasn't been overplayed, there are only a few signs of static and crackle but only heard on a couple of tracks, these will more than likely improve significantly once the album has been played and cleaned a couple of times by its new owner. Overall I would say the vinyl plays to an Very Good condition

THE SLEEVE FRONT CONDITION :- This is the very earliest 1st press sleeve. There are no seam splits and only very minimal signs of shelfwear at the corners and opening. A couple of small creases in the laminate but these are barely noticeable. It still retains its original feel and sheen even after 44 years. I would rate the front cover as Excellent condition

THE SLEEVE REAR CONDITION :- A non laminated rear cover with  full track details and extensive cover notes, there are no stickers or writing which frequent albums of this age.None laminated rear covers are extremely difficult to keep pristine and although not pristine I would rate the rear as Excellent condition with only some minor ageing that is as to be expected from these types of fragile rear covers

THE LABEL SIDE ONE CONDITION :- Original rough textured black Fontana label in near perfect condition free from stickers or writing and no damage at all, some signs of play around the spindle hole. Would have to rate as Excellent.

THE SPINE CONDITION :- The writing on the spine is crystal clear, no spine splits at all, virtually no signs of shelfwear or rubbing. Would have to rate as Mint Minus

We use a Project 6 Perspex Turntable to play grade our records which delivers a rich authoritative sound and achieves a rich and weighty vibrancy unrivalled by the majority of decks within its price range

HOW WE CLEAN YOUR RECORD :- 

We use a V.P.I. HW-16.5 record cleaning machine to clean your vinyl. "A highly recommended machine" as quoted by Stereophile magazine. This removes any excess dirt before playing

HOW WE PACKAGE YOUR RECORD :- 

Your record will be package very securely to minimise any risk of damage during transit. We remove the record from the outer sleeve unless asked not to do so. This helps to minimise the risk of seam spliting. We use a high quality record mailer which is designed to give superior protection for your vinyl record. We place stiffeners either side of the record for added protection. The album will also be placed in a 450 gram Poly outer sleeve for even extra added protection
