Soundgarden’s Superunknown Original ’94 Pressing in rare Orange Vinyl; XLNT Never Played


An unplayed, original ’94 pressing in ORANGE COLORED vinyl of Soundgarden’s Grammy winning double album Superunknown is your’s for consideration.


Stored carefully. Removed with gloves for photo display here, the packaging reflects the fact that it was a promotional item, complete with the front hype sticker intact and a promo stamp on the back. (see photos) The double sleeves also contain 2 separate lyric sheets with credits and other information front and back.


All contents were carefully removed only this one time for documenting the product.


In ’94, very limited numbers of colored vinyl were pressed by A&M in the U.S. With CD’s being the prevalent format of the day, the vinyl was for insider business and media supporters and the super Soundgarden fan. Initially there were blue (UK), orange (US), clear (UK), and red (US). Since ’94, various later day pressings have come to market (Germany, UK, US remastered versions).


Superunknown is widely regarded as Soundgarden’s White Album. Chris Cornell, perhaps the greatest American rock voice this side of Steven Tyler, hit a peak of songwriting in ’93 as he and the band recorded with producer Michael Bienhorn in Seattle. Guitarist Kim Thayill found new tones and drummer Matt Cameron displayed the prowess that inspired Pearl Jam to grab him upon later availability. Brendan O’Brien, who produced Pearl Jam’s monstrous first 2 albums, mixed Soundgarden’s double LP gem. Bienhorn and O’ Brien refined the quartet's powerful grunge rock sound into their most attractive music yet, helping contour hit songs as well as deep album tracks.
