Impossible to find unopened copy of this ultra rare and highly unique record, probably the greatest of the Folkways sound effects albums, with a wide variety of natural and mechanical/man-made found sounds, ambient soundscapes, and electronic atmospheres sourced from scientific expeditions, documentary recordings, anthropologists in Africa and Antarctica, experimental music studios, etc. There are noisy industrial sounds, exotic animal sounds, primitive tribal instruments, and tracks exploring the animalistic and repetitive nature of human language with recordings of religious ceremonies and New York City street vendors. Part of side 2 is a demonstration of "electronic feedback," in which David Hancock creates reverberating atmospheres out of tape feedback noise generated from hand clapping, metal basket, screwdriver, metal washers, and voice. A couple of segments are presented in multiple playback speeds, making this album a treasure for DJs/producers/turntablists seeking unusual sounds as well as fans of musique concrete interested in the recordings that served as source material and inspiration for the work of artists like Pierre Schaeffer, John Cage, Luc Ferrari, Bill Fontana, Jim Fassett, Tony Schwartz, Tod Dockstader, and Henry Jacobs. Includes booklet with notes on each track, most written by the original recordists like Folkways founder Moses Asch, jazz scholar Frederic Ramsey, Jr., anthropologist Laura Boulton, and Peter Bartok (Bela's son). "Folkways Records presents what it believes to be a departure from material generally issued on phonograph records... including the most unusual - and the most common - sounds that exist; through aural interplay, Folkways hopes to be able to establish a mood not unlike that of seeing photographs or pictures. Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers which I have determined are the best and most protective, reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
