One of the classic collectibles in soul/funk: the 1960's recording in Austin of Dr. James (at the time known as James Polk) with his group "James Polk and The Brothers" of the Yvonne Joseph song "Stick-to-it-tive-ness". The vocals are by Yvonne herself. 
The other side of the record has "The Robot", composed by Dr. James. 
Dr. James Polk was born in 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He bot a B.A. Degree in Music Education and worked as Band Director in Elgin, Texas, from 1962 to 1967. It was during this time that Sonobeat's Bill Josey called him to record two songs in the now famous, collectible record that we have for sale here. 
After working in corporate America for a few years, he joined the Ray Charles orchestra in 1978 where he was pianist, organist, writer, arranger and conductor. He came back to Austin in 1988 and he studied and received a Master of Music Degree from Texas State University. He was later awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music Degree by his Alma Mater, the Huston-Tillotson University, in 1995. He retired in 2006 as Professor Emeritus from Texas State University at San Marcos. He currently lives in Austin, where he is working in his next masterpiece.

This record we believe has never been played. The sleeve is the original one, and it has been handled around, but it is also in good condition. We have dared to grade the record itself as "mint", as we are pretty sure is new (it is part of a group of never played Sonobeat records we recently purchased).
Sonobeat is of course the now famous Austin studio that recorded some of the earlier garage, psych rock bands in the 1960's. One of them, a psychedelic rock group known as Mariani (for its founder, Vince Mariani) recorded the first ever piece where Eric Johnson played guitar, in 1968, when Johnson was 15 years old. Other psych rock groups associated with Sonobeat were the Conqueroos, whose record we sold recently on eBay, Lavender Hill Express, and Plymouth Rock.
This James Polk and The Brothers Sonobeat record sold recently on eBay for over $ 200.00, and it was a used record.
