A Macon native, Billy Young came up in the same R&B tradition as Otis Redding, with whom Billy worked and spent time with throughout the 1960's. Early on, Billy began his recording career out of the shadow of Redding, when in (circa) 1961, he cut "Glendora" b/w "Are You For Me" (Original Sound 29) which is indeed the same "Glendora" which The Downliners Sect later covered for those of you who also dig British Beat music trivia.
After he recorded this great record h moved to Atlantic, Chess, and Joatis (Otis Redding label) but despite the quality on those recordings none of them reached the "hit" level!!!
