Sonny Rollins Vol.2, BLUE NOTE 47 West 63rd RVG
Sonny Rollins Volume 2.
Early USA pressed Blue Note Records mono LP, BLP 1558.
47 West 63rd NYC label script at 12 o'clock both sides (43 West 61st to rear of sleeve), "R" after Blue Note logo either side. A thin line that can be felt to the touch rather than an inset groove,
RVG (for Rudy Van Gelder) and "ear" stampers both sides, although the "ears" are slightly more indeterminate squiggles.
Vinyl in very clean condition. Although close inspection of the centre spindle areas shows evidence of a few spider trace marks, vinyl surfaces are very clean, and display just two or three of the lightest of superficial scuff marks. A couple of these are slightly more immediately visible, but still surface scuffs rather than scratches. Surfaces display no deep scratches, and no dulled patches. Clearly a fairly carefully played LP.
Playback throughout is mostly very clean. There is no distortion or loss of sound quality. Side one plays very cleanly. Side two displays the odd low level tick, never continuous, and some isolated and very low volume crackle. There are a few consecutive low level ticks near the end of track one, side two, and I noticed just one isolated tick more mid-level. From track two, side two, this side plays very cleanly. Although one is aware of these imperfections, they never become loud or prolonged enough to represent any serious impairment to listening pleasure.
Both labels are clean and free of marks or loss.
Inner sleeve appears to be a later replacement.
Thick heavy duty outer sleeve in very clean condition with just a tad of storage rubbing and some darkening areas to extremities of rear. No pen or sticker marks. Export/tax stamp to rear of sleeve. No excessive wear or whitening. Spine has been fairly neatly reinforced with sellotape which has yellowed somewhat with age. This appears to have been applied as reinforcement rather than repair, as there are no seam splits, and the spine is actually in really clean condition. Tips are clean and tidy with just hints of whitening. Just a touch more wear to the area at head of spine, but this is still not overly frayed. No seam splits. Rear panel is intact.
All in all, a nice example of this classic Blue Note LP.
