Description

Up for auction is Prestige LP 7126: Sonny Rollins Tour de Force, with Rollins on tenor sax, Kenny Drew on piano, George Morrow on bass, Max Roach on drums. and Earl Coleman on vocals for two tracks. Recorded in 1957 and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, this is an iconic session for Rollins and this quartet. The label has the black and yellow "fireworks" and bears the RVG stamp in the dead wax, as well as the 50th St. NYC address and deep grooves. 
Sleeve: NM, with a pristine front cover, no seam splits, no ringwear, and one discolored section on the back cover near the middle of the opening from what looks to have been tape. 
This will come in the original, extremely brittle original inner sleeve. 
Record: M-, with no scuffs, no needle trails, no scratches, and no spindle wear on either side, leading me to believe this has never been played. There is one patch on the first track of the second side that catches light, but it is not a scratch, rather I believe it to be a pressing oddity. Barring the fact that I'm not sure it had been played prior, I put on that one track of side two just to check, and the pressing oddity does not affect playback in any way. The track is one of the two with vocals, a ballad, and it sounds amazing.   



I am a university professor of music here in the US who inherited this and other records (Blue Note, Norgran, Impulse!, Columbia, Prestige, Fantasy, Riverside, etc.) from a collector and former radio DJ a few years back. I am looking to sell off some of these records to collectors/audiophiles who can get more enjoyment out of them than I can.
