SONNY ROLLINS QUINTET: "SONNY ROLLINS PLAYS" LP - On PERIOD Records, SPL 1204. Extremely hard to find vintage jazz Lp! Original 1956 MONO pressing. The label is DEEP GROOVE on both sides. Thick vinyl, thick laminated cardboard cover. Side 2 is THAD JONES And His Ensemble. The personnel: Sonny Rollins/tenor sax; Jimmy Cleveland/trombone; Gil Coggins/piano; Wendell Marshall/bass; Kenny Dennis/drums; Thad Jones/trumpet; Frank Foster or Frank Wess/tenor sax; Henry Coker/trombone; Jimmy Jones or Tommy Flanagan/piano; Doug Watkins or Eddie Jones/bass; Jo Jones or Elvin Jones/drums. The vinyl is visually close to NEAR MINT (beautiful sheen)! Sonny Rollins side plays well with only slight background noise/hiss. Thad Jones side plays with much more significant noise/hiss. The thick laminated cover is in excellent shape, displays nicely. Gentle seam split (approx. 3") at center of bottom edge. No cut-out marks, and the front cover graphics are particularly striking. Liner notes on back side by Leonard Feather. The songs are: Sonnymoon for Two; Like Someone in Love; Theme from Pathetique Symphony; Lust for Life; I Got It Thad (and That Ain't Bad); Ballad Medley: Flamingo; If You Were Mine; I'm Through with Love; Love Walked In.
