Description
This is the original deep-groove RVG-stamped “P” pressing of Sonny Clark “Dial S For Sonny” on the West 63rd (no “INC.”) labels of Blue Note BLP 1570. The playing surfaces do not show the usual luster of Blue Note pressings, but there appears to be no groove wear and the sound quality is bright, crisp, and undistorted throughout: Side 1 has two light, inaudible, superficial handling marks; Side 2, though without handling marks, has a few light, non-repetitive tics. The laminated cover (no address, as original issued) has clean artwork: the back slick shows light shelf wear and age toning ; the top seam has a 1 ½” split at the opening; the spine has 1” wear at the bottom; the bottom seam has 1” wear at the spine and ½” wear at the opening. Personnel include Hank Mobley, Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller, Wilbur Ware, and Louis Hayes. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------CHECK OUT the new book: "Blue Note Records, A Guide for Identifying Original Pressings" by Frederick Cohen.
