Wagner: Das Rheingold
(Decca SXL 2101-3 UK 3 x LP Box Set 1959)
This is a UK original Stereo 3 LP Box Set pressing. It has a hard card box which has a laminated front cover. It is hinged at the spine & has embossed gold lettering on the spine. Unfortunately there is no Libretto/ Booklet. All three records come with their original polythene-lined generic "FFFS" company inner sleeve. The records are pressed on thick vinyl & have ED1 "wide band" Decca labels which are grooved also. All the labels have the "Original Recordings By..." text. All three records have 1st press matrix numbers. They are:
LP 1 (Side 1 and Side 6) ZAL-4260-1E/ ZAL-4265-1E
LP 2 (Side 2 and Side 5) ZAL-4261-1E/ ZAL-4264-1E
LP 3 (Side 3 and Side 4) ZAL-4262-1E/ ZAL-4263-1E
This is a genuine 1959 UK 1st Stereo pressing with the earliest matrix numbers. Sadly, the box is a bit worn &, as stated, there is no libretto. However, the records are in wonderful condition!
Box: There is a 1.5 cm seam split at the top two corner tip seams (see photo). This is on the front part of the box only. There is more moderate to moderate rubbing wear on all 4 corner tips on the front part of the box only. There are a couple of small areas of moderate rubbing wear to the bottom edge of the front part of the box. There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear to the front right-hand edge. There is mild, more moderate or moderate rubbing wear to three edges of the back panel on some areas. The inside of the box is in near excellent condition. The spine is in Very Good++ condition. The text is perfectly legible & there is no fading. Overall, Good+ condition
Vinyl 1: Next to no sleeve rubs can be seen when viewed under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on the dead wax areas on both sides. These can hardly be seen under a strong light. A strong Excellent+ condition. The labels are in Near Mint condition & show next to no spindle wear. The polythene-lined company inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Excellent to Excellent+ overall & Near Perfect to Perfect in many places. A superb audio copy!
Vinyl 2: Next to no sleeve rubs can be seen when viewed under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on the dead wax areas on both sides. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light. Very Near Excellent condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition & show minimal spindle wear only. The polythene-lined company inner sleeve is in Very Good++ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.
