Description

SWF 8201/2 Brahms: Symphony No 1; Variations on a theme by Haydn; Schumann: Cello concerto with Tibor de Machula conducted by Wilhelm Furtwangler

Brahms: 1951 North West German Radio performances; Schumann: October 1942 Berlin performances. The sound on the Brahms symphony is vastly superior to the EMI studio issue, which is just as well since it is a stunning performance

Societe Wilhelm Furtwangler LP issues were limited editions available to Societe members and not on the open market. There were 40 editions between 1969 and 1988; year of issue is shown in the first two digits of the serial number, and there seem to have been either 400 or 1,000 records per edition.

Jacket: Gatefold, minor wear to the top seam otherwise near mint

LPs (2): Both near mint

Condition

A Near Mint LP means that there are no sounding marks; there may be one or two very light surface non-sounding marks, but the LP has had little if any discernible play, shows a high gloss, and has no repeated ticks or sign of aural wear.

Any other rating will be specifically described.

A Near Mint jacket will be whole and undamaged, with no significant discolouration.

Any variation will be specifically described.
