Description
“Hatful Of Hollow” was the first Smiths record I ever bought, I heard William or Heaven Knows on the radio and instantly I was like holy shit this is my favorite band. It felt like Morrissey was singing to me, and about me and my life. All you Morrissey nerds out there understand what I’m talking about. My life was different after hearing the Smiths, that’s not hyperbole. Marr’s guitar was just like nothing else on the radio, nothing I had heard before. it was like a momentous occasion, a sign from the heavens when I first heard the Smiths. Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, all that stuff that I listened to at the time got pushed to the background and I kinda just cared about the Smiths. To this day they’re my favorite band and nothing else is even close. Morrissey’s solo career is great and he’s got plenty of great songs with Alain Whyte and Boz and all that but the Smiths are like a wondrous 5 year period in history that’s very very special.
This would be, to me, the record I’d give to someone if they never heard the band. “Here, this is what the Smiths do, what they do that no other band does”
As an adult every time I’d see the record in the used bin at the record shop I’d buy another copy, I had numerous cassettes, CDs, records. This particular copy I just bought it because the reissue cover was different and I wanted it in my collection.
Record itself does have issues there is crackling between tracks, and there’s a scratch during “Reel Around The Fountain” and you can definitely hear annoying clicks. Cover is in nice shape.
Due to the fact it just sounds just “fine” and not “great”, and due to “Reel Around The Fountain” being fucked up, I’ll start this bidding with a low price. If you’re like a 15 year old kid just getting into the Smiths this is a fine copy till you get more serious about vinyl and high end audio equipment and shit like that.
