What's going on?...A Riot!
50th Anniversary alert! November 1971 - the official release date.
An iconic album from an iconic period. Don't miss out on this funk classic from '71.
1st pressing on Epic for the Xmas market '71. Matrix AA1/AB1. Note the track listing - track 6 mentions 'there's a riot going on'. But does it play? Nope! It was a Sly trick! Many folks took their records back to the store thinking there was a missing track! And as a result many 1st issue copies went out with a sticker on the rear reminding folks that the track 'There's A Riot Going On' - is timed at zero minutes & zero seconds - ha! The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original heavy-card gatefold cover. We also have the original credit/lyric sheet and the original inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In marvellous condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback one slight deviation. There's some great funk laid down here - and it will sound fab on an early pressing like this. The audio quality is absolutely superb - this is the best rendition I've witnessed. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Even the quiet slow funk groove tracks play clean. Expect nothing worse than a few isolated crackles in Time. And even this track is playing back much better than you tend to usually find - because it is so damn fussy. This is a funk masterclass. Lap it up!
Cover (Vg+) Difficult to find in decent condition - this one is looking pretty dapper if you ask me. Clean surfaces with lightest wear at the foot. The main noticeable issue is a sticker removal mark toward the top of the spine. I have tried to blend it in with some black ink - it's thankfully not too stand out now. The interior looks superb - no issues. There's a bit of edge wear as is typical on this title - but nothing major. The spine looks superb with 85% of text fully legible and a touch of wear in a couple of spots [most will not look this good]. Overall the cover retain excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. A one inch bottom edge split.
Lyric sheet (Vg) Aged a bit. But good integrity.
