It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Now look, now, you see, here's exactly what my disclaimer (see above) is really all about.
This is a splendid recording (as often happens with these early Ska/Reggae items, the B side is the best) and it plays very well.
It's Jezebel by Lloyd and Glenn, backed with Jam Session by Tommy McCook and the Supersonics. A nice hard-to-find 1967 single on Doctor Bird DB 1058
It has been stored in a box with a lot of other sleeveless wonders and is adorned with a fair number of small light marks, which (with yer "mono" button pressed) do not impinge negatively upon the ear'ole.
It looks like a good VG or maybe edging up towards a VG+ but it plays a darn sight better than it looks. It will fill the floor at any skinhead wedding, punky reggae party, wife-swapping extravaganza or Red-Stripe-Fuelled boogie night.
The very appropriately named "Dick" has written his name on the label, in shaky biro, twice. I don't know why. You'll have to ask Dick. There is a tiny label-tear on Jezebel. This is NOT the Frankie Lane number of the same name. Jam Session is a great track, and seems to be a Calypso tune done as a mid-tempo Ska.
I commend it to the house.
