Release: ‘The Prince’ 7” debut single.
Release year: 1979
Release number: CHS TT3. Record is an injection-moulded label and housed within a die-cut ‘Two-Tone’ 7” single sleeve.
Format: this is an official 1979 debut single by the Two-Tone band ‘Madness’, signed by six members! The following signatures are included:
Chris Foreman – guitar (1976–1986, 1992–2005, 2006–present): has signed ‘Chrissy Boy’ to the right edge at 2 o’clock of the sleeve, in a fine blue biro-style pen. Graded 8/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo).
Mike Barson – keyboards, piano, percussion, backing vocals (1976–1984, 1992–present): has signed ‘Barzo’ to the right edge at 3 o’clock on the sleeve, in a fine blue biro-style pen. Graded 7/10 for definition and ink coverage and minor smudging (see photo).
Lee Thompson – saxophone, percussion, vocals (1976–1977, 1978–1986, 1992–present): has signed ‘Kix Saxo’ 12 o’clock above the top of the die-cut of the sleeve, in a fine black biro-style pen. Graded 8/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo).
Graham "Suggs" McPherson – vocals, percussion (1977, 1978–1986, 1992–present): has signed ‘Suggs’ to the far-right edge at 2 o’clock of the sleeve, in a fine grey biro-style pen. Graded 5/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo). Graham has also signed at 10 o’clock at the top edge of the die-cut sleeve. Using the same pen, in a fine grey biro-style pen. Graded 5/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo).
Dan Woodgate – drums, percussion (1978–1986, 1992–present): has signed ‘Would’e?’ 12 o’clock of the sleeve, in a fine blue biro-style pen. Graded 8/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo).
Cathal "Chas Smash" Smyth – bass (1976–1977), vocals, trumpet, dancing (1979–1986, 1992–2014): has signed ‘Chas Smash is on top No1 Day’ at 10 o’clock in a fine black biro-style pen. Graded 8/10 for definition and ink coverage (see photo).
Mark Bedford – bass (1978–1986, 1992–2009, 2012, 2013–present) has not signed the sleeve, hence 6 out of 7 members of the classic line up of the band.
Shipping weight: 300gm
Condition: the die-cut sleeve is in excellent condition, with minor creasing and no rips or tears. The vinyl is only in good condition, and the band members have signed the record so forcefully that ‘Chas Smash’ signature embedded into the vinyl surface! The signed single on Two-Tone labels is super rare, and would look amazing mounted, framed and glazed.
Provenance: Purchased as Lot 599 via Special Auction Services on 24th July 2024, and will come with a redacted invoice & lot labelling on outer plastic bag as provenance of authenticity.
