In the early sixties the American pop charts, and many others around the world, were awash with cute and catchy girl group record hits. It was a hugely successful genre that was led by the record labels who realised that they could catch the teen public's ear and sell product that depended on the songs and the feels. The girl group records covered the whole gamut of teen emotions: angst, excitement, worry, admiration, jealousy, sadness, heartbreak, unrequited love, and on some occasions even lust and sexual stirrings; everything in fact that the key record buying audience was going through themselves, and we can include the boys in that too. The songs were the emotions of their day, precise and to the point, but packaged by the producers to be so memorable that we can still love them all today… and tomorrow!
