Description
Hello this is a lot of SEVEN two-sided Wilcox-Gay Recordio 33 rpm Home Recording Cutter Red Art Deco Records from the late 1930's to late 1940's.
They were found together in an estate collection here in Central/Southern Illinois.
One is labeled "Shadow." The rest have cuttings, but have no indication of their content. I do know that Orson Welles' Mercury Radio Theatre show, "The Shadow" was broadcast beginning in 1938, when these Recordio players were available. They were quite expensive as the last photo shows, (ad not included). In 1941, they were advertised at $79 to $189, which in 2018 dollars would be about ten times that today.
In the second to last photo (not included) you can see that Welles worked for CBS, (Columbia Broadcasting) The closest CBS station in the late 1930's-early 1940's that broadcasted this classic radio show was KMOX in St. Louis, Missouri. Possibly they come from station in Springfield, IL or Chicago. It is possible that announcers' voices, commercials, WWII news, intros from the at-home recorder, etc. may also be on these records.
These are sold as a group, and are "As-Is." I would love to hear them as much as you would, but I am afraid that my stylus would hurt them. I know that buying these can be a gamble. No returns.
