Science Fiction Sound Effects Record - Conceived and recorded by Mel Kaiser of Cue Recordings label & cat. no.:
Folkways FX 6250 pressed in:
USA date:
1958 format:
LP condition:
Vinyl: vg (some unfeelable light marks, nothing too bad but expect some light surface noise)
Cover: nm (amazing for its age, looks like new) description:
Great and rare lp consisting entirely of spacy effects derived from primitive, pre-synthesizer early electronic sounds and tape manipulations, with a great 50s mod space age cover. It seems as though Mel recorded a bunch of brief electronic/musique concrete compositions and extended drones, and then matched them up with track titles like "Sound of Approach of Missile or Creature," "Elevator Descending," "Space Ship Hatch: Opening or Closing," "Exterior of Space Ship in Motion," "Cosmic Bombardment Indicator," "Electronic Telescope," "Space Machine," "Space Music," "Space Sounds," etc. There are also more abstract atmospheric tracks like "Electronic Drone (Background)," "Drone with Variations," "Frequency Sweep: Dual," "Tone Pyramid," "Sweeps & Drones," "Low Frequency Sweeps," "Medium Frequency Sweeps (with Echo Re-Verb & Pulses, Drones)," and much more. The mood is pure 1950s sci-fi flick, clearly inspired by movies like Forbidden Planet and the sounds of the Theremin, the Ondes Martenot, the Ondioline, and Oskar Sala's trautonium. Highly recommended for DJs/producers (makes a killer turntablist tool) as well as anyone interested in early electronic music and instruments such as Tom Dissevelt, Tod Dockstader, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Pierre Henry, Bernard Parmegiani, Raymond Scott, Bruce Haack, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Robert Moog, and Donald Buchla, turntablists like DJ Shadow, Q-bert, invisibl skratch piklz, Kid Koala, and Mixmaster Mike, and library music like Cecil Leuter, Chappell, De Wolfe, TVMusic, and Montparnasse 2000. Check out my other items for more early electronic/synth/concrete/electroacoustic, avant garde/experimental/noise, free jazz/improv, psych, sound art, soundtracks, audiophile, and 20th century classical vinyl. US Shipping - Media Mail with tracking is $5.00 for up to 2 12" records, then $0.65 for each additional; Priority Mail is also available but pricing depends on zipcode (you can check eBay's calculated shipping price at the bottom of this page); other expedited shipping options and insurance are all available on request. Feel free to email with any shipping questions. Payment - I accept Paypal (which allows for fastest possible shipment). Please email with any payment questions. If you are paying by Paypal and have won multiple items, please use a single Paypal payment. I will send an invoice email to all winners shortly after my auctions close, and another email after payment has been received to confirm item shipment. Packing - I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know. Other Info - Feel free to email me if you have any questions (need more info, want more pictures, etc.); you can use the 'ask a question' link below. Records are visually graded unless otherwise noted; my condition rating scale is M (sealed) / NM (unplayed) / EX (barely used) / VG (some evident wear from prior use but no major flaws) / G (major flaws). All included album inserts are pictured in the listing; what you see is what you get, if I know an insert is missing I will mention it in the description.
