The records in my listings are some of the first flat record disc on the market 1904 and earlier. These are at least 115 years old so please don't bid if you expect high fidelity sound.
This record is for the vintage record collector that knows what they are looking at.
PLEASE, VIEW THE PICTURES PROVIDED…
Both the record and the label show well.. No cracks, or needle digs, couple of very light scratches that do not affect the play in any way.
You can see some etched numbering information faintly on the record around the area of the label…
The reverse side is blank except for a number.
Very Early Scarce 7" Victor Monarch Record # 1087, in great condition from the turn of the century. One of Eldridge Johnsons first Monarch records after he registered the Victor Trademark name in 1901 but Pre Dog prior to the dog on the label. This is a single sided announced record that has great volume and plays through smoothly without any issues on my Victor D phonograph using a fiber needle… As usual there is some light background noise which is the norm for records over 115 years old. I'm not a record collector but I would give it an overall rating of 8 out of 10.
From what I have seen on the internet,, it appears the US label was produced around 1900-1903 by Eldridge R. Johnson who’s parent company was the Consolidated Talking Machine Company of Philadelphia and preceded the Victor Talking Machine Co. Supposedly Eldridge Johnson came up with a superior way in which to reproduce multiple copies of quality records from a single master.
Initially these records carried the label Improved Gram-O-Phone Record the first records ever to carry a paper label but within a year, through a court injunction, he was prohibited from using the term Gram-O-Phone on the labels of any of his superior records thus only the IMPROVED RECORD label remained. Once he moved his operation to New Jersey, Eldridge Johnson's Consolidated Talking Machine Company reorganized and became the Victor Talking Machine Co.. This record with the Victor Monarch label would date right around 1902 after Johnson reorganized and move the company but he had yet to included the Nipper Dog Trademark on his Victor Records..
I certainly am not a historian when it come to the evolution or progression of the first records ever produce so please do your own homework as to the information I am trying to provide.
