Description
Samhain INITIUM vinyl LP. First 500 Pressing Of Black Vinyl Small Ring Danzig 1984 release.
This auction is for the black vinyl with small blurred white dots shown in last photo.
Samhain's Initium record, released on Plan 9 in 1984 This record is used, but the vinyl is in great used condition. The sleeve is also in great condition, mostly just normal edge wear. Please see attached photos. The sleeve has original shrink wrap with one cut open edge.
When the initial black vinyl copies were being pressed, Glenn Danzig and Steve Zing had white vinyl mixed in with the black to produce swirled and white vinyl copies. (Sources: www.MisfitsCentral.com) The matrix etchings on the vinyl are PL-904-A on side A and PL-904-B-1 on side.
The small ring is the true first pressing. This is often confused with the larger ring production. The story from Steve Zing on YouTube is that Glenn Danzig himself hand trimmed the edges of the first press tour records. The band needed records to sell for their tour. They called Europadisk, but no answer. So they drove up to Long Island and arrived after the pressing plant had closed, but saw the owner's car, banged on the door and Glenn said, "You promised us albums. We are not leaving until we get records. Today." There were no staff present, so Glenn, Steve, the owner, and a friend of the band "turned all the machines on" and pressed records. The vinyl being sold has a more crude flat edge probably because it was the first and most likely the last time Glenn ever hand trimmed a record. IT IS A VERY RARE ORIGINAL PRESSING , MISFITS CENTRAL INFO Plan 9: PL9/04 (August 1984) 5000 black vinyl copies but in a interview with Steve Zing they only pressed around 500 black and then added white pellets to tradition from a black vinyl to white vinyl.
Description SAMHAIN INITIUM LP Super slight white spots in VINYL, I would NOT consider this as a super rare marble version because you really have to look to see the spotting. I can physically count at least 12 of these areas but you definitely have to hold up the light to see these areas. I have attached some photos. USED, HAS LIGHT SURFACE SCRATCHES. THE JACKET HAS original shrink with on cut open edge with slight tear. VINYL HAS THE proper center MATRIX NUMBERS with the small center ring. It is also possible that the 4 pressings described below were pressed at different dates.
Samhain's Initium record, released on Plan 9. This record is used, but the vinyl is in great used condition. The sleeve is also in great condition, mostly just normal edge wear. The sleeve has original shrink wrap with one cut open edge. This release of the vinyl is extremely rare,
According to Steve Zing interview they only pressed 500 in black and then dropped in white vinyl pellets. Some records had a little white strikes in the black. He said only about 25 were full marble and then the some had around 25 black strikes in the white and maybe only 50-100 full whites were pressed that day before the tour.
Supposedly 15 exist, but the collecting community believes there to be more than that based on the frequency they come up for sale and the known copies. These copies can range anywhere from 600 to 6000. I would consider this record as black but does have a few small whitish grey spots one side. All first pressing copies have the Plan 9 logo and address, dull "C&P Hellbent Music" center labels, "6/84" A-side matrix, and "8/84" B-side matrix etching. These copies are available with white paper or clear plastic inner sleeve. This copy has the original paper sleeve. I personally have owned this record since it was originally purchased in 1985. After further research and markings mine is part of the original 500 black records that the band produced.
First pressing with Plan 9 address and logo on sleeve.
