Saint Etienne - Foxbase Alpha - Vinyl, LP, Album - Heavenly Records - HVNLP 1 - 1991
This LP is in seriously good condition. We're talking pristine. Anyone would think it was a freshly pressed reissue as opposed to a genuine UK first press from 1991 (complete with a printed inner sleeve which is in top-notch condition). It's got a light finger mark but I shall give it a once over with my record cleaner. Even with the light mark, it plays perfectly.
This was the first LP released on the legendary Heavenly Records (hence the issue number HVNLP 1), which makes it a rare beast indeed, especially when you consider that very few albums were released on vinyl in the early '90s and those that were released sold in relatively low numbers. People were being swept along by the CD craze at the time.
The album, influenced by everything from '60s pop (sampling Dusty Springfield) to late 80s/early 90s club culture, remains one of the most iconic albums of the early '90s period. It features some seriously great tracks, including the beautiful 'London Belongs To Me' and a stonewall classic cover of Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'.
