Description
This is a very rare acetate recording of the 1967 hit by Sagittarius “My World Fell Down”. This band included Glen Campbell and Bruce Johnston, both Beach Boys members, on vocals. If you are not familiar with this song it sounds kind of like The Beatles and Beach Boys meet Jefferson Airplane. There is an odd middle section that is similar to The Beatles “Revolution #9”. I don’t know if this version or mix is any different from the commercially released version but some of the edits between sections of the song seem a bit rough.
It is a one sided 10 inch acetate disc with a metal center that plays at 45rpm and has excellent sound quality. There is handwritten disc info in the label area with the number “HCO 88442”. It comes in a paper sleeve from Transco Products in New Jersey which also has the same handwritten info on it.
The disc is in mint condition except for 2 tiny edge chips which in no way effect the playing surface. As you can see in the photo below the actual playing area is near the center of the record and not on the outer edge. It was probably unplayed although I did play it once to record and and verify.
I purchased this with a large group of Columbia, Harmony and Epic promotional LP’s all from the mid 1960’s so I can guarantee it as period done.
Acetate recordings are probably the rarest records since only 1- 10 copies are normally made and they can contain alternate takes or mixes and even unreleased songs. As far as I know this copy is only 1 of 2 known copies. I had another from the same collection which I sold a few years ago. A great 1960’s psych rock / Beach Boys collectible.
