SADE's cool vocals and exotic looks grabbed everyones attention in 1985; otherwise SADE would have remained the darlings of the British rare groove scene, but their sound proved irresistible to the mainstream and the rest is history. Straddling R & B and pop, this disc lays out the hooks and sultry allure that became SADES soulful standard - intelligent and sexy at the same time.

STRONGER THAN PRIDE The set starts with the strongest songs: LOVE IS STRONGER THAN PRIDE with its gentle, soothing, African-flavored percussion and muted guitar, PARADISE with its bass and drums draws you in deeper, the fervent NOTHING CAN COME BETWEEN US, and the chilling HAUNT ME with its intense instrumental backing. Sade (the entire Band) create upscale, classy, relaxing yet imaginative music that have become jazz staples. This album hasn?t aged a day since 1988.

PROMISE is a jazzy blend of soul, R & B, and pop. The album starts off with a husky torch song - IS IT A CRIME. This is true torch at its best, blazing up-beat parts mixed with smoldering, whispered vocal segments. SADE keeps the energy up with THE SWEETEST TABOO, one of only a few high-placing chart singles for the band. The sound of rain to open and close the track sets off Adu?s vocals on this song perfectly. Her take on the song JEZEBEL is very lyrically adept. NEVER AS GOOD AS IT GETS is as up-beat as SADE gets and the band lays down a pounding, memorable rhythm section complimenting the vocal stylings of Adu. PROMISE is Sade's masterpiece where Adu?s vocal style reaches its full potential.
