UP FOR AUCTION IS A first pressing of the TRULY GREAT 1970 debut solo album by SYD BARRETT titled "THE MADCAP LAUGHS". The disc has the matrix stampers 2G/2G and NO EMI BOX on the labels which the great Pink Floyd discography website identifies as the original very first pressing!!!

Syd Barrett. The Madcap Laughs. Harvest. SHVL 765. Stereo. NO EMI on the Labels. Indicating a first press. Comes complete with Harvest adverts inner sleeve. This is a top copy all the way around and it will be tough to find one better!!! Amazing psych from the master of it all! Do not miss this chance!!!  Genuine original very first pressing featuring both Harvest labels WITHOUT the EMI BOX logo!!

This is a RARE ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING from 1970, there is NO EMI logo on either Harvest label. The fabulous laminated gatefold cover is in EXCELLENT + condition with no seam splits, no tears, no writing and only very minor light wear. The full lustre glossy vinyl is in EXCELLENT+ condition, very clean with a only a few barely visible light wispy hairlines seen under a strong light. The original 1st press textured lime green Harvest labels are virtually MINT and unmarked. Comes complete with the original first presssing Harvest label poly-lined inner sleeve which advertises other records on the label, this is EXCELLENT condition as well.

True UK (Made in Great Britain) Original 1st Press G/G Matrix, 1st Press Textured Labels containing the 'The Gramophone Co.' text and No EMI Logos on the labels!!! Complete with 1st Press Ernest J. Day Laminated Gatefold Sleeve and original Harvest poly-lined inner sleeve!!

I am the first and only owner of this LP , bought new by myself within the first week of its original release back in 1970!!

This is the seminal and classic first SYD BARRETT LP, with help from "PINK FLOYD" members DAVID GILMOUR and ROGER WATERS who also produced the record. Crazed Acid Drenched Psych!! Very rare 1st issue NO EMI BOX on labels!! A key album by the late, great and truly legendary original Pink Floyd leader. No Reserve!!

CONDITION

Vinyl: Excellent+

The original heavy vinyl displays beautiful stunning full gloss and lustre with no groove wear or deep scratches, has only a few very faint wispy hairlines and inner sleeve paper marks seen under strong light....THE RECORD STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL 'JUST PRESSED' LOOK!! It lies perfectly flat with no warp. The lp plays excellently throughout with only minimal playback static and a few tiny little clicks on side two. I doubt this lp has been played more than ten times during the near 40 years I have owned it!  It would be very difficult to find a significantly better condition original 1st pressing of this legendary Syd Barrett LP!!

The record labels are in AWESOME condition (see pictures) with NO wear, NO writing, NO stickers and only a couple of very faint spindle traces! Totally clean and unmarked original 1970 first press lime green Harvest labels which have the "gramophone co" rim text, made in Gt.Britain text, and NO EMI logo!!

The Ernest J.Day & Co.Ltd laminated gatefold cover is in wonderful condition for a near 40 year old artifact with NO tears, NO stickers, NO unwanted writing and grades Excellent+.There is no major wear to report, one tiny crease near the bottom right and just a few tiny laminate wrinkles can be seen. The spine is very straight and the text is clear and readable. The opening edges are very straight with barely any feathering. Even the unlaminated inside is in SUPERB condition with NO grubbyness, NO writing, NO rubbing, and NO yellowing!! The cover must grade Excellent+ if not better!

Records Are Graded In The Following Way:

MINT: The record displays barely any signs of use, if any, with no marks or deterioration in sound quality. Extra items and cover are near perfect.

EXCELLENT: Shows only minor signs of being played with very little lessening in sound quality. The Cover and extras will have some light wear and or creasing

VERY GOOD: Has been played many times but has no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Cover and extras will have normal wear and tear but no major defects

GOOD: Has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and any extras may suffer from folding, scuffing, split spine, discoloration etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable and has considerable surface noise and may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly. Covers badly damaged or partly missing

+ or - : Indicates slightly better (+) or slightly lesser (-) condition than main grade

Packing Procedures: All LPs are securely and well packed in top quality material to avoid any unnecessary damage during transit. When posted the records are removed from the cover, if possible, and placed in a PVC outer protective sleeve to prevent sleeve splits in the post. I use brand new mailers, either the envelope style with thick stiffeners to prevent any sleeve bends in transit, or the "cruciform" style that wrap around the LP. I aim to dispatch all items within 48 hours of receiving payment. It is recommended that you choose the insurance option for higher value items. As stated above I cannot be held responsible for any item(s) lost or damaged in the post that are not shipped via insured / registered mail. I always obtain a certificate proof of posting receipt for every item sent, which will complete our transaction.
