Absolutely beautiful copy of the rare 1964 true first pressing of the Sweet Emma and her Preservation Hall Jazz Band self-titled LP, self released on Preservation Hall Records VPS-2. Fully signed by the whole band except the banjo player, who may have not been present the night it was signed (in 1965), and the bassist, who had recently died. Signed by trombonist Jim Robinson, clarinetist Willie Humphrey, drunker Josiah “Cie” Frazier, trumpeter Percy Humphrey, and of course pianist Sweet Emma herself on the back. This is the rare original pressing that was rather cheaply made to sell locally in New Orleans, with a paste-on paper cover and black labels. Later it was made with a more properly printed cover. Anyhow this is a real piece of New Orleans jazz history, with the original and classic Preservation Hall band, all of whom have passed now, though there is still a version of the band playing today. And the disc is in beautiful shape and plays flawlessly! The cover is also in very nice shape wirh just a little wear. The paste on cover is torn a little at the upper left and there are some light scuffs, but really it’s a beautiful copy, and the signatures are nice and clean. The signatures are dated April of 1965. A beautiful signed original copy! Very hard to top this one.
