General Description:

This is an exceptionally rare test pressing by Rod Stewart which is dated 04.08.80. We are of the opinion that this album has never been released. From Rod Stewart's discography and as far as we know there was only ever one album release in 1980 and that was his 10th studio album entitled Foolish Behaviour. But this certainly isn't it. Foolish Behaviour was generally considered not to be his best work and wasn't well received as a New Wave album.

This test pressing is something completely different however as the track listing for FB doesn't match up and also there's nothing new wave about this album which is laid back and bluesy. It seems that it may have been earmarked for release but never happened for some reason.

Here is a selection of tracks that I recognise (not in any particular order): You Wear It Well, Maggie May, Pinball Wizard, Mandolin Wind, Fighting in the Street and Twisting The Night Away. There are 12 tracks in all, 6 on each side. Also, if this means anything to Rod fans or music business execs, there is what appears to be a catalog number written on the other side of the inner sleeve which reads "Rod 463 061". I've tried researching this on the Internet and have so far drawn a complete blank.

I'm no particular Rod Stewart fan and I may be missing something obvious. If you know which album this is then please drop me a line and I'll be happy to update this listing.

*** AUDIO UPDATE***

Ok here's the latest. I wasn't sure before but now I've played it a few times to decide on the samples and to listen for fualts. The first track is definitely an ELTON JOHN / ROD STEWART duet. I've included it as the first mp3 sample in the playlist (I'm sure most knowledgable fans out there will be able to identify it):

There are 4 sample tracks, 2 from side 1 and 2 from side 2 (They are The Elton John / Rod duet, Mandolin Wind, Pinball Wizard and Maggie May.

These are all contained with an m3u playlist file so listen out for the 4 tracks. I've tried as much as possible to let you hear the silent dead wax in between the tracks. By the way, in case you're wondering, I confirm that these are the actual tracks recorded raw off the vinyl of this actual record with no processing in any way shape or form (other than fade outs to shorten some of the tracks to sample length):

GRADING

Our vinyl grading system is based on the criteria used by 'Record Collector' and the 'Record Collector - Rare Record Price Guide'. We believe this system is widely considered to be the Industry Standard. Please note we have used our own grading abbreviations (in parenthesis) and our own variations (in between) where it becomes subjective and difficult to distinguish between two grading categories. Please also note that most of our vinyl is generally (unless otherwise stated) VG or above. Grade Record Sleeve Mint (M) The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition Near Mint (NM) or EX+ In between (difficult to distinguish)   Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing VG + In between (difficult to distinguish)   Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable Good + In between (difficult to distinguish)   Good (G) The record has been played so much that sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc. Fair The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained, and/or defaced Poor The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing Bad The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.  back to top
