Over the Rainbow (Harburg-Arlen)

Side B:

What's New? (Burke-Haggart)
Take the "A" Train (Strayhorn)
Ra-p, org; Michael Ray-tp; Ahmed Abdullah-tp; Akh Tal Ebah-tp; Vincent Chancey-frh; Marshall Allen-as, ob, fl; Danny Davis-as, fl; John Gilmore-ts, cl, perc; Danny Ray Thompson-bs, fl; Eloe Omoe-bcl, fl; James Jacson-fl, bsn, perc; Richard Williams-b; Thomas Hunter-d; Luqman Ali (Edward Skinner)-d; Atakatune-perc; Eddie Thomas-perc. Jazz Showcase, Chicago, November 1977.

[Location and date courtesy Ahmed Abdullah. I've taken the personnel from Unity but deleted Ebah on trumpet, the two trombonists, and Emmett McDonald on bass horn because none of them are audible -- rlc]

Trumpet solo on What's New? is by Michael Ray. Solo on A Train is by Ahmed Abdullah. [Abdullah]

If this material is from the Jazz Showcase gig in Chicago (mid to late November 1977), that might explain why Alton Abraham released it instead of the folks in Philadelphia. This is the last Chicago Saturn release. [rlc]

All known copies of this LP have a defective pressing on Side A. According to Glenn Jones, Rounder records (then distributing Saturn) received only 100-150 of their order of 200 from Danny Thompson, along with apologies for the defect. Another run to correct the defect was promised but no more copies were ever delivered.

Seller's note: this "defect" referred to is basically a poor mastering (or plating?) job, with thin sound. Still enjoyable, but the fidelity pales in comparison to side 2.

RARE RECORDS LISTED EVERY WEEK OR TWO: psych, prog, private press, folk, soul, reggae, metal, punk/wave, experimental, weirdness and more.

Please note that eBay's shipping calculator is frequently wrong. To avoid overpaying for postage DO NOT SEND PAYMENT UNTIL I SEND YOU AN INVOICE VIA EBAY (not that invoice that Ebay so thoughtfully sends out automatically, but the one from me, with a personal message from me and correct shipping costs for your location) Thanks!

International orders under $200 will be sent first class mail. ($14.50 for 1st LP, $4.00 for each additional LP)

International orders over $200 will be sent REGISTERED mail. There is an ADDITIONAL cost of $11.50 for this, so an LP that sells at $200 or more will have a shipping charge of $26.00 ($14.50 for first class mail and $11.50 for registration.) It is known to be a very secure shipping method, requiring signatures from postal employees at various stops along the way, as well as your signature upon receipt of the package.

I no longer require Express mail for any destination, but it is recommended for more expensive records.

See my Ebay "me" page for more detailed info on grading, etc. ..........

Your bid constitutes acceptance of all this boring stuff below, so please read it carefully, as just about everything you'll need to know when bidding is covered here, thanks.

IF YOU WIN THIS ITEM, please take a minute or two to click on the link to this listing in your notification email and read this stuff again so there'll be no surprises for either of us. Thanks again.

I accept PAYPAL ONLY.

NO eChecks, please!!! It takes an extra week for eCheck payments to reach my paypal account - this also means your shipment will delayed. I accept PayPal payments via PayPal balance, bank account or credit/debit card only! Thanks for understanding.

Payment is due within 3 DAYS of winning. That's plenty of time in the age of PayPal, yes?

I do not end auctions early. Please do not ask.

**I pack all LPs outside of the covers, in their inner sleeves, both in a plastic outer bag, in order to prevent seam splits.**

POSTAGE RATES: I attempt to charge at cost.In fact, like most sellers who endeavor to charge at cost, I frequently take a loss on shipping.

DOMESTIC U.S. SHIPPING:

Media Mail: $4.00

Priority Mail (faster): $9.50

$1.00 for each additional LP

CANADA / MEXICO:

$9.50 airmail

$3.00 for each additional LP

EUROPE / ASIA:

$14.50 First Class airmail

$4.00 for each additional LP

(especially heavy COVERS might incur additional postage charges due to their weight)

REGISTERED MAIL (required for packages worth $200 or more) is an additional $11.50

Express mail (for 1st LP) $42.00 (no longer required but recommended for very expensive records)

***RETURNS accepted, all ITEMS guaranteed, but I do not refund ANY shipping costs (from me or back to me,) as postage money goes to the U.S. Postal Service, not to me! If I examine the returned item and conclude that there has been a genuine grading error on my part, I will make an exception, but in general I do not refund shipping costs. Please do not bid if this is not acceptable to you, and please email me with any questions/concerns/requirements about records BEFORE YOU BID. Thank you.***

SPECIAL REQUESTS RE: SHIPPING/PACKING AND SO ON: If you insist on having your package reinforced with vulcanized rubber, blessed by Tibetan monks, shipped across the desert via camel, etc. etc. then please contact me BEFORE YOU BID and I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
