Description

KILLER local sunshine pop psych RARITY from 1969 by the Summer Sounds, "Up Down", originally released on the Laurel label and given a Rarity Value of 5 (means it's pretty rare to those who follow such values) - originals sell for FOUR figures and home remortgages.  This is a superb and highly sought-after limited vinyl reissue of this AMAZING LP on BEAUTIFUL splatter psych colored vinyl!  Musically, this is incredible popsike that sounds a lot like the 1966-67 era UK psych scene of the Beatles, Zombies and Kinks - in other words, well-written, bouncy and catchy, sometimes moody pop psych tunes under 3 minutes.  "Hard to Please" is a highlight, all bouncy sunshine pop with great trippy faroff backing vocals breaking through the haze, and some very cool left channel only slashing Who/Creation style guitar.  "I Love You" takes the Zombies fixation to its inevitable end, with a nice spooky cover of their early tune, slowed down and given a heavy farfisa carnival organ makeover.  It's a GREAT version, and even out-moodies the Zombies original, taking care to add on some nice jangly Byrds-inspired guitar as well.  "You Told Me" is NOT a Turtles cover, but a teen garage stormer with nice double-tracked vocals and super catchy melody - imagine the Everly Brothers if they had beefed up their sound and recorded in their parents basement rather than an expensive studio.  "First Date" recalls the Kinks "Tired of Waiting For You" quite a bit - it's swingin' teen sunshine pop garage with farfisa organ, catchy melody and cool jangly teen guitar.  Certainly one of the BEST small label do-it-yourself garage psych albums EVER - with an ear for melody and song construction rather than three chords and an attitude.  For fans of Rising Storm and All of Thus, although I prefer this one more, and certainly the production is much better as well.  Long gone limited reissue on psychedelic splatter colored vinyl, from 1996.  Vinyl and cover both in NEAR MINT shape.  Winning bidder pays $3.00 media shipping in the US, $6 to Canada, $11 everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.
