London-born songwriter Paul Weller had already reshaped British pop once with The Jam before teaming up with keyboard player Mick Talbot for The Style Council - a project that swapped punk grit for elegance and experimentation. This offering dives into that transformation, tracing how Weller used jazz harmony, soul phrasing and social critique to rebuild his sound from the ground up. Early versions of 'Long Hot Summer' and 'Party Chambers' reveal his fixation on grooves and restraint, while Tracey Thorn's guest vocal on 'The Paris Match' draws out the band's emotional precision beneath their cool surface. Across BBC and live recordings, the rhythm section stretches into freer, more improvisatory territory. The result is both archival and alive - proof of British pop's most thoughtful reinvention.
