Description
· OUT OF PRINT · Limited to 500 numbered copies. Yours will be #187. · Packaged in sturdy, crystal clear sleeve with protective flap. PLEASE NOTE: This “sturdy, crystal clear sleeve" is one heavy-duty piece of plastic, but it was too tight to squeeze the 200-gram vinyl into and during shipping, split on the bottom side on both my copy and the copy I am selling. Visual inspection reveals no marks, scratches or otherwise on the first tracks of each side of the album. Therefore, to be sure, I also played the records (both of them) through entirely to be sure the plastic didn’t damage the vinyl itself. It did not. It sounds perfectly fine on my very fine audiophile equipment. And during shipment to you, I will be separating the damaged heavy clear sleeve from the vinyl itself. AGAIN: THE SLEEVE HAS NOT COMPROMISED THE VINYL IN ANY MANNER. Reptilians is Starfucker's second full-length and first with Polyvinyl. Lyrically, the album focuses primarily on death and the end of the world, two intertwined subjects at the forefront of songwriter Josh Hodges’ mind following the passing of his grandmother. Yet, amazingly, the record manages to be not the slightest bit depressing. In reality, it's quite the opposite -- a trait likely attributed to the fact that the band, like British philosopher Alan Watts (whose lectures are excerpted at various intervals), believes death is responsible for giving meaning to life. For Starfucker, this comforting notion is expressed musically via vibrant crescendos, explosive drum beats, and layered synth melodies that drive a theatrical live show where dance party meets Roxy Music. As such, Reptilians marches effortlessly from the stripped-bare psychedelia of "Born", which conjures David Byrne's ghost, to the funeral parade of "Bury Us Alive" (a track that greets death with open arms in a moment of animated celebration), to "Death as a Fetish," where the title becomes a liberating mantra sung over an immediately hummable keyboard-driven loop. Just as with the band’s previous two releases, Reptilians was written almost entirely by principal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Hodges. This time around, however, the group’s sound is bolstered by the addition of Keil Corcoran (whom Hodges describes as a “human drum machine”) and producer Jacob Portrait (The Dandy Warhols, Mint Chicks). The result is Starfucker's most well-rounded and full-sounding album to date -- a blissfully buoyant affair that will have you dancing to songs about death while having the time of your life. I live in the city the band is from and have seen them at several venues. Things get really wild and fun. I’d encourage you to catch them live if you ever have the chance to. Tracklisting: 1. That’s ridiculous and what I get more pleasure out of, is seeing that rare items like this end up in a fan’s hands even at the risk of selling it at a lower price just for someone to buy it and then turn around and sell it for two or more times the amount I’m offering. Not cool folks. So I take a risk at a happy medium, fully realizing this may not end up in the hands of a true fan, but just someone who will turn around and sell it for a higher price. This auction will have a buy it now feature that will not change. I will consider best offers but reserve the right to ignore them, counteroffer or let them expire and am listing this for 90 days with the intent to get the amount I’m featuring it for or more. BTW, with no digital download code offered, I will include a CD copy of this album that includes 2 extra songs.
