WONDERFUL BAND. I saw them live many times during my youth and they always delivered - especially super guitarist Del Bronham who's long spindly wah-wah based solos were mindblowing in concert. The great thing about Stray was although they resembles a bunch of touch hard-nut rockers their music was always much, much more with little twists and nuances that suggested a far superior unit to the other period rockers like Hustler, Nutz, Strider and Strife.
This was their penultimate album before taking a well deserved temporary hiatus brought about the punk rock explosion forcing Stray and others of their ilk into a dark age. 'Tis a pity as 'Houdini' showcases the band in great form combining meaty hard rock with deeper tracks built on intense layers of Bronham's fiesty guitar. Some great tracks here including 'Feel Like I've Been Here Before', 'Houdini', 'Fire And Glass', 'Take It Easy' and the albums highlight and center piece 'Percy The Pimp'.
Collectors of this stuff will know how hard it is to find this one - sold zilch on release.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: PYE, UK, 1976 - translucent red vinyl when held up to a strong light.
Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks on labels. No other signs of use. Grades as a lovely shop fresh MINT-!
Cover: Again, practically no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated fully laminated cover - retains full gloss. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is straight and stiff. Displays just a hint of storage wear. Grades as top MINT-!
