Description

DUKE ELLINGTON'S FAMOUS ORCHESTRA play the premiere version of "SOPHISTICATED LADY," which of course went on to be a perennial evergreen standard.  Personally, I love listening to these "Beaujolais Nouveau" versions, before anyone knew how to play them or what to expect.  "STORMY WEATHER" is on the flip, and one could say practically the same thing about it.  


COOTIE WILLIAMS (trumpet), JOHNNY HODGES (alto sax), TRICKY SAM NANTON (trombone) BARNEY BIGARD (clarinet) are among the ace participants.  


This original 1933 Brunswick 6600 is in sparkling E+ condition, and is a quiet West Coast laminated pressing, to boot.
