STONE MINT ... STILL IN ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINK WRAPPER

Released only in FRANCE in the '70's, here is thee original first pressing in stunning MINT condition...

Recommended to fans of skilled progressive rock in the vein of early '70s KING CRIMSON, SHYLOCK made only two highly collectible albums before vanishing... "Fever Island" is their second effort and goes like this: With endless comparisons to King Crimson, Shylock remains one of the premier French symphonic bands. Other comparisons are made to Arachnoid and Pulsar. Darkness is the key here. Absolute highlight is the stunning 'Laocksetal' a 10"07 track with the strange ominous synthesiser effects storming over the dark fripperian guitarplay and sounds like it came straight off their very rare first album. Overall, Shylock manages to capture greatly its crimsonian inheritance and should very well capture the enjoyment of serious '70s progressive rock fans. The opening 13+ minutes epic title track ("Fever Island") displays a colourful combination and ensamblage of diverse musical ideas, intertwined and ultimately reprised with tremendous skill and immaculate fluency. This moster epic comprises the signals of the band's main influences with a particular dynamics that reveals Shylock's own prog style even with the nod to Crimson. An absolute individual gem, that can only be equalled afterwards by (as mentioned above) 'Laocksetal', the most aggresive number in the album: starting with a series of guitar-driven riffs, momentarily intersected by a rough martial section, it ends with a disturbing, almost nightmarish synth "festival" exhibited upon layers of mellotron and a cacophonic sequenece of guitar, bass and wood blocks. In the middle of these two highlights, the remaining tracks are quite good pieces: the mysteirous beauty of the mellotron solo 'Choral' and the Weather report-esque vibe of 'Himogène' are really well accomplished - the latter includes some occasional dissonanace a-la Gentle Giant.
