PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! STILL SEALED NEVER OPENED + RARE SONG TITLES STICKER
DAVID BOWIE
LODGER
\ USA - RCA RECORDS - AQL 1 3254
***STILL SEALED*** ((never opened)) Original 70's first pressing vinyl in gatefold cover including the RARE song titles sticker on outside of the cellophane -- hardly ever seen, this sticker went missing when almost all copies were opened up and lost the outer cellophae wrapper to the gatefold jacket...again, a PERFECT *STILL SEALED* ORIGINAL...
David Bowie brought the 1970s to a close after being influenced as a fan of NEU! and Eno, with one of his most diverse and unusual albums. Lodger is particularly hard to categorise, and it also breaks the 'Berlin' mould, by not having any instrumental tracks, and not having been recorded in Berlin. Although Lodger is now considered to be the last album in the so-called "Berlin trilogy", it was written and recorded in Switzerland and New York, during breaks in Bowie's world tour.
Lodger is made up of short, moody well-performed songs, with a continual feeling of solitude about it. Initially Lodger may seem difficult to get into, (like many of David's best works) – but once you are into Lodger, you'll be hooked. The first four tracks form a sort of travelogue, with a very worldly feel and continuing the eastern musical influence that crept in towards the end of "Heroes".
Musically Lodger is quite varied and interesting, offering a fine balance of synths and some rather unusual guitar playing, courtesy of Adrian Belew. It is a much more layered album than any of its predecessors, offering a vast mix. This is one of Bowie's best albums vocally, evident on tracks such as "Look Back In Anger", "Fantastic Voyage" and "Yassassin".
The travel theme gradually evolves into a more cultural analysis. "DJ" and "Boys Keep Swinging" make obvious single choices, standing out slightly above the rest in terms of being perhaps more radio friendly. However, neither were big hits, making Lodger feel like rather a low key album, which is a shame considering the quallity of the song writing and Bowie's vocal performance. Working titles for the album included "Planned Accidents" and "Despite Straight Lines", although the final choice of "Lodger" still doesn't offer much of an insight into the album, which is also packaged in Bowie's most unusual cover.
This original album closes with "Red Money" a reworking of "Sister Midnight", a track Bowie composed with Iggy Pop, and probably the most unusual ending to a Bowie album.
Lodger manages to be fun, crazy, dark and obscure, all in such a short space of time. Although another diverse venture in the Bowie back catalogue, it doesn't quite fit in with anything else he's produced – but things just wouldn't be the same without it.
