SCARCE 1972 ORIGINAL HIPPIE ROCK ~ STILL SEALED ~ NEVER OPENED!
SANTA FE
\ USA - AMPEX RECORDS - 10135
STILL SEALED...never opened 1972 original in super thick gatefold cover...these hippie rockers released two cool albums in the early 70's...
The first SANTA FE album is the rare and sought after one on the RTV label that brought you the MU collectible, but their second album is stronger and far more enjoyable.
Recorded in Hollywood's Goldstar Studios with Herb Newman producing, 1972's cleverly titled "Santa Fe" dropped much of the earlier rural-rock influence in favor of a harder rock sound. Those rural-rock influences weren't totally abandoned, but this time around harmony-rich tracks such as 'Iron Horse', 'Sad Days' and 'Matthew Fields' recalled something out of the early CSN&Y catalog. Guitarist/vocalist Woody Minnich certainly had the best voice, but, as well, Joe Sputo's twangy delivery grows on you after awhile ('Memphis Is a Woman'). Mind you, nothing here is particularly original but the set has a nice cohesive feel to it and virtually every one of the ten tracks featured a nice catchy hook. Personal favorites included 'I'm Going To Be Your Man' and the lead off epic 'Iron Horse'.
