"Sticks" McGHEE & John Lee HOOKER - HIGHWAY OF BLUES
Rare 1959 US1st press blues rarity in overall great condition, worthy of gracing any serious vinyl collection
Year/Label : 1959 US AUDIO LAB Label number : US AUDIO LAB AL 1520 Matrix numbers : AL-12-1520-A-1, AL-12-1520-B-1Very good plus (VG+) condition jet black sheen vinyl - completely flat, weighty and with just the occasional very light surface scuff mark and hairline on each side, including a 7cm mild surface scuff line emanating from and perpendicular to the circumference on side 2 - all strictly surface only, non-feelable, and not impinging upon the excellent sound quality at all. Excellent labels - unmarked apart from just a couple of very mild small spindle trails and a single rogue and slightly more obvious spindle trail on each label. Note the circular "deep groove" on each label, indicative of very first US pressings. Original non-laminated very good plus (VG+) condition thick cardboard outer sleeve with firm and largely unscuffed edges (just the occasional tiny inobtrusive "nick"). The opening edges are also firm with barely any fraying, each corner remains a near perfectly defined right angle with barely any rubbing at all, and all colours, photos, and text remain excellent with impressive definition and clarity still. There is the occasional very light scuff/graze mark towards the front-side opening edge and on the reverse side just the hint of some very mild age discolouration, but all very trivial and the overall condition remains very, very impressive for a 65 year old non-laminated album cover such as this. Excellent (EX) audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, rotational clicking, interference or distortion - and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum, very occasional and very background...negligible. Excellent tone with great clarity and every track a great listen, as you would expect from these two blues giants. Comes with new plain white die-cut poly-lined inner sleeve. I doubt there are many better condition copies of this highly collectable US 1st press 1959 blues gem than this - some minor blemishes but remaining very impressive overall and a great listen throughout.
