Stevie Ray Vaughn is the best at Texas Blues Rock and most live Blues recordings have a feeling of intimacy as if concerts took place in some out of the way venue for an audience who not only know all the lyrics but know the performer personally as well.

LIVE ALIVE - DOUBLE LP in contrast feels like a large scale rock concert, an epic production full of grand gestures. But, really, nothing suited Stevie Ray Vaughns style better -- everything from the overall sound to the solos feels big. The roar of the audience especially for favorites like PRIDE AND JOY, COLD SHOT and TEXAS FLOOD is huge but distant, an arena sound. Overall LIVE ALIVE leaves the impression of a series of stellar moments caught on tape with an intensity rarely captured in the recording studio.

FAMILY STYLE - Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990 just as the first single from this LP, beautiful Motown Soul inspired was about to climb the charts and make the Blues Rock hero an international superstar. Thankfully, he was able to make this delightful and laid back album FAMILY STYLE with his brother. For Jimmie and Stevie Ray, it was a kind of spiritual re-union. Jimmie had followed Stevie down the road to sobriety. These New York City sessions were a spirited collaboration intended to mark the beginning of their musical partnership. While some tunes sound like the result of mere jamming, Telephone Song, is one of Stevie’s best numbers, an eloquent Blues shout with screaming guitar breaks and Jimmies B-3 organ like textures on steel guitar astound. Other songs included here are - Hard To Be - White Boots - D/Few - Good Texan - Hillbillies From Outer Space - Long Way From Home - Baboom/Mama Said and Brothers.

COULDN’T STAND THE WEATHER - Stevie Ray Vaughan makes the point that music used to be more based on common everyday occurrences like a train sound going down the track or a horse walking. This LP includes Vaughan’s heartbreak chronicles Couldn’t Stand The Weather and Cold Shot, his first jazzier Stang’s Swang, and his initial Hendrix outing - Voodoo Chill (Silent Return). It’s the sound of the guitar hero growing as an artist on his own terms side-stepping the irony that poisoned ‘90s rock to stay true to the real life aesthetic of the Blues. Also included are Scuttle butting - Things I Used To Do - Tin Pan Alley - Honey Bee.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & ALBERT KING - IN SESSION -

Anyone who's witnessed a much-anticipated jam session only to be disappointed - with each participant deferring to the other, the end result being that neither ever got out of first gear — will welcome this pairing of two giants of blues guitar. Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan obviously shared a mutual admiration, but it simply wasn't in either one's makeup to a) be intimidated or b) take a backseat to anyone. Not without kicking up a little dust.

This is such a precious set to any fan of either of these blues giants. In addition to the free-spirited jams, there are priceless episodes of conversation between each song, both men exchanging accolades and King giving the much younger Vaughan (though tragically it was Vaughan who died first) some sage advice. This simply is a must-have.

JIMMY VAUGHAN'S FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS "TUFF ENUFF 1986 LP".

This Dave Edmunds-produced album took Austin's best-known band and introduced them to the world in 1986. One of the best blues based rock albums ever made. Jimmie Vaughan's guitar matched with Kim Wilson's vocal and blues harp makes one hell of a ALBUM, to own  on vinyl. The two big hits, Kim Wilson's own "Tuff Enuff" and Sam and Dave's "Wrap It Up," move the band in a new R&B-flavored direction. This album encompasses the many influences that make up the T-Birds: zydeco on "Tell Me," soul music on "Two Time My Lovin' "(with Los Lobos), and a blues tribute to their home base, "Down at Antone's." This is easily the best of their three Epic releases with guitarist/singer Jimmie Vaughan.
