STATUS QUO "Hello" 1973 UK VERTIGO 1st PRESS MINT AUDIO

EMBOSSED ROBOR SLEEVE w/LYRIC INNER & POSTER, ONE PLAY

STATUS QUO
Hello!

ORIGINAL UK VERTIGO (6360 098 FIRST PRESSING (September 1973) OF QUO'S FOLLOW UP TO "Piledriver", "Hello!" - IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION (carefully played just the one time - there is only one light spindle trace on the labels and the vinyl surfaces are unmarked and shine like-new) AND IT DELIVERS MINT AUDIO THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A LOUD VOLUME!) - FANTASTIC COPY AND AS GOOD AS IT GETS

PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL WITH THE FIRST UK VERTIGO 'SPACESHIP' LABELS
MATRIX: 6360098 1Y//1 11 1 (etched 'BILBO') / 6360098 2Y//1 11 1 (etched 'BAGGINS')
THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL 'BLACK ON BLACK' MATT SLEEVE “Printed in England by Robor Limited.” WITH EMBOSSED SILVER LETTERING AND GLOSSY QUO SILHOUETTE
COMPLETE WITH BOTH THE ORIGINAL LYRIC INNER SLEEVE PRINTED ON VERY THIN PAPER (with printed '6360 098' catalogue number) AND THE LARGE EIGHT PANEL GLOSSY QUO POSTER (again, printed with the '6360 098' catalogue number)

Following the success of Piledriver, Status Quo opted not to change a thing, unfurling the mind-numbing boogie attack of Hello! The strategy worked, resulting in the group's first number one album and in "Caroline," its first top-five single.
Mostly, the album succeeds in spite of itself. "Roll Over Lay Down," not immediately impressive, builds into a tizzy over the course of five minutes. It is one-upped by "Caroline," the definitive Status Quo rock song, a not particularly hard or fast four-on-the-floor stomp saved by a massive, deceptively simple guitar hook. "Forty-Five Hundred Times," less catchy but harder rocking, is brutally long, but is rescued by its placement as the album's closer. In between, the group, writing in some instances with coordinator Robert Young, offer up slight variations of their standard formula. Several of those, like the rickety, Beatlesque "Claudie" and the bluesy "Softer Ride" transcend their three-chords-and-a-riff construction enough to render them decent, memorable pop songs.
Down to the proto-Spinal Tap black-on-black cover, this was the vanguard of British denim rock in 1973, and given the narrow conceptual and technical limits within which the Status Quo had to work, it has held up well, though it is certainly not for the faint of heart or attention span.
Clearly the product of a band at their commercial and creative peak, Hello! wears its strengths and weaknesses well: not particularly flashy or intelligent, but without exception confident, comfortable and fun.

Track Listing:
Side 1: Roll Over Lay Down / Claudie / A Reason For Living / Blue Eyed Lady
Side 2: Caroline / Softer Ride / And It's Better Now / Forty-Five Hundred Times

LABELS: Clean, bright, fresh and unmarked labels with just one light spindle trace. The spindle hole is still quite tight and still retains some vinyl reside indicating how little this copy has been on a turntable MINT(-)

VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and appear as-new, this is a beautiful pristine piece of vinyl - visually MINT
VINYL Audio: Deep, rich and strong audio reproduction on this first pressing with a crystal clear and detailed sound. On careful play at a loud volume it sounds sensational and there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no clicks/pops and no surface noise - the run-ins and track divisions are silent and I have no hesitation in grading this copy as MINT for audio - the playback is flawless

SLEEVE: The original cover is also in superb condition (especially as this is normally found heavily worn) with clean, fresh surfaces displaying only a little rubbing. There is a little storage wear to the bottom edge but it's very minor and the spine (which is 'pinched' at the top and bottom) is crisp and square with no creasing and displays all text clear and bold. Overall, a very fine example of this easily worn sleeve - EXCELLENT (but just about the finest original I have seen)
INNER SLEEVE: The thin, delicate lyric inner is NEAR MINT with no splits, just a little light age-related discolouration to the white edges
POSTER: The very large poster (printed on one side) is untouched with just some light 'foxing' to the white back otherwise, like-new - NEAR MINT
