Original 1984 stereo release on Recordsound (HOLLAND) (catalog # 840603/01).Wild experimental percussion album from Dutch-Mali drummer duo Simon De Swaaf and Cherif Keita (or Chrif Keita, Chérif Keïta.) Incredibly scarce album, I can find no info about it, or even about the duo Stalo & Kauras, on the web.
The music on here is hard to describe -- drums and all sort of other instruments and electronics make for a harsh, tribal-rhythmic soundscape. It's entirely instrumental but with found voices in different languages emerging out of radio-wave static. Z'Ev or AMM III, Keith Rowe/Eddie Prévost, all are reference points, but the Malian influence opens the rhythms up wider and the raw beats are funkier, at times it has the feel of No Wave funk like ESG, Liquid Liquid or even early 23 SKidoo.
Needless to say, this LP is just swimming in beats and drum breaks and all kinds of percussion samples ready for the taking.
