The Straight Edge ideas pioneered in Washington DC by bands such as The Teen Idles, Minor Threat and SOA had by 1981 migrated to other cities. In Boston Alan Barile was particularly influenced by the power of Bad Brains and a discussion with Henry Garfield [who later changed name to Henry Rollins when he left SOA and joined LA based Black Flag] concerning how tight and united the Washington DC scene was. Alan Barile stopped drinking, took up the "X", the all ages crusade and formed Society System Decontrol [or simply SS Decontrol as they came to be known].The lineup was: Vocals: Springa Guitar:  Alan Barile Bass: Jamie Sciarappa Drums:Chris Foley   

SS Decontrol played their first show in the summer of 1981 and released a demo called How Much Art [which was an attack on the current state of Boston music]. The whole Boston Straight Edge thing simply took off behind them. In 1982 SS Decontrol release their debut album, The Kids Will Have Their Say, on their very own XClaim! label.

SS Decontrol were, along with Negative FX and DYS [and later on also Last Rights], at the core of the so-called Boston Crew. They were a group of about 20-30 people who used to follow SS Decontrol everywhere they went [and would crew for each other if not all bands were not playing]. There are numerous stories about what they did. One is how they used to roll into New York shows in SS Decontrol's black windowless van with X's painted on their heads. And if they saw a kid in the pit without an X on his head, they'd punch him as he was from New York. Yes, there was a lot of tension between the Boston and the New York scene. Boston had, along with the DC scene, a Straight Edge mentality and a suburban upbringing. The New York scene was based around the lower East side and seemed very street and violent compared to Boston. It also had beggars, Krishnas and other oddities. Cover/insert/vinyl are all in excellent condition - you will NOT see a cleaner copy again - look at my feedback - my records are pristine!!!

VINYL CONDITION: I'm listing over the up coming months my entire personal collection of somewhere in the region of 2 or 3 thousand items i'd guess. I can guarentee that every single item that i sell if free from scratches or jumps and will play perfectly (may be the odd pop or hiss, occasionally a surface scuff but that's it). where there is a major flaw in the cover, i will happily state this. I do NOT give record collector style mint/near mint etc reviews of each record - life is too short! If it is DESPERATE that you need to know condition - please ask and i will ATTEMPT to answer. There may be small seam splits etc but i will try and mention anything in the review above.

PAYMENT - Will accept Paypal/cheque/PO/cash/Western Union.  I will ONLY accept UK Sterling payments (dollars/euros are no use to me whatsoever.) For items over £28, if paying by Paypal, your address MUST be confirmed with Paypal. Items that close over £50 MUST be insured if paying via Paypal. I do not think it unreasonable to expect to receive payment from you within 3 days of auction close (If there is a problem - let me know, i'm actually a very reasonable chap!) If I have not heard from you within 7 days a non Paying Bidder alert will be processed and I will leave negative feedback. I will also sell the item elsewhere, so be warned - if you don't pay up - you lose it!

US Buyers - If you are new to buying from overseas - don't worry! I have completed well over 500 transactions with US buyers now. Paying by Paypal could not be simpler - you will be advised by Paypal how much in US dollars the sterling amount is. There's no calculations or anything difficult about it - Paypal will convert everything for you. I only post airmail, so your vinyl should ordinarily reach you in around 5-7 days (although I have known stuff to arrive in 3 days!!).

POSTAGE RATES:

Unlike alot of Ebayers at present, I don't look on P&P charges as extra revenue! I send items well packed (all vinyl sent in proper vinyl cardboard mailers with stiffener. More valuable 7"s are sent in a box with stupid amounts of card!). I will happily combine postage if you've won 2 or more items. Prices below include insurance up to £28. I would suggest any auction that closes at over £28 should be sent insured (at cost) - I cannot be held responsible for any items lost/damaged in the postal system that are not insured. I will offer any help i can - including the proof of postage that i receive for every single item i post.
