Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! This is an all time favorite Rock album of mine! This original UK pressed album on CBS labels really rocks in stereo! I decided to list this album because of its condition! The vinyl looks un played in my opinion which is very rare to find indeed! The vinyls playing surface is also near mint no scratches or audsio sounding marks at all! The vinyl has always been separated from the cover and sleeve for protection, this is how I have always stored my records! The Audio is absolutely stunning throughout cristal clear and very vibrant with no interference real bass feel and one of the best sounding copies that I have heard. Audio graded near as Mint in my opinion! (Hear the actual and complete audio in the player below) The laminated front only cover is also in exceptionally clean condition graded at least excellent plus in my opinion!

Spirit was an American jazz/hard rock/progressive rock/psychedelic band founded in 1967 and based in Los Angeles, California. Their most commercially successful single in the US was "I Got a Line on You", but they were also known for their albums including their self-titled debut album, The Family That Plays Together, Clear, and Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.






The Family That Plays Together, the second of four albums released by the original Spirit lineup, was marketed by Ode Records in 1968 in the US and CBS labels in the UK. More than its predecessor, Spirit, their self-titled and surreal debut, The Family That Plays Together displays the band's ability to play beyond the genre of psychedelic rock.





Tracks such as "It Shall Be" and "Silky Sam" demonstrate the ease with which the ensemble can incorporate jazz into their idiosyncratic form of rock, while "Jewish" and "Aren't You Glad" show the band's competence in exploiting both world music and jam rock. "Poor Richard," "Jewish," and "All the Same" feature double track lead breaks by guitarist Randy California.




 The album's title was inspired by the stepson-stepfather relationship between guitarist Randy California and percussionist Ed Cassidy. It alludes to the slogan "The family that prays together stays together," created by ad-writer Al Scalpone for the Family Rosary Crusade and popular in American and British rhetoric beginning in the 1940s.





The album's arrangements were created by Marty Paich, who also arranged and conducted Spirit's eponymous debut album and their third album, Clear, as well as Model Shop (the soundtrack to a film of the same name, which was recorded after "Family" but not released until 2004).





At some point after "Family's" first issue, the final mixes for the album were lost. Because of this, all subsequent CD releases by Sony, as well as the recent vinyl re-issue by Sundazed Records, are taken from new mixes made from the original multi-track tapes (the tracks that appeared on the Time Circle compilation were re-mixed as well, though the mixes differ) by Bob Irwin, Randy California and Ed Cassidy in 1996.





Liner notes on the 1996 CD version state that it was "mixed and mastered by Vic Anesini, Sony Music Studios, New York." A general comparison between the original LP and the 1996 CD reissue makes this point obvious. Those who have more than a passing interest in the work should consider tracking down the original version on vinyl, as there are substantial differences in some places.

The Vinyl
This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping. On visual inspection it is hard to even see if this has been played at all! Visually this is Near Mint in my opinion! Even on close scrutiny I find it hard to even see a blemish on the playing surface. No scratches or marks at all that I can see looks as good as it did when it came from the shop in my opinion! Importantly no marks that would cause any interference clicks or pops.

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl at very loud volume on a top system and fully recorded the record for you to hear for yourself in the player provided above! This audio is absolutely awesome throughout! Please note! One of the best sounding copies that I have heard of this album, super deep bassey feel and cristal clear and vibrant through out! No clicks or pops heard at all! Audio graded Near Mint in my opinion! You will find it hard to find a better sounding copy! Near Mint and looks un played condition!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original CBS advertizing serpier paper record sleeve! No splits or tears, light creasing fading/staining with age only!

The Cover
This is the oroginal laminated front only CBS cover! No splits or tears no real creases to talk of generally lovely and clean throughout! No real ring wear that is so common on these covers, all text can be read on the spine! Very minor marks or yellowing only noticed if looked for in my opinion.  Lovely cover graded at least excellent to excellent plus in my opinion!
