BABY - LOVE / ZUGABE ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by SPIKE aka SPIKE WOLTERS. Original Dutch private pressing on SPIKE RECORDS label (198301 S), from circa 1982. Hypnotizing 7inch oddity with a DIY bedroom production feel. Spaced-out easy glide with a beautifully structured mellow groove and a more teutonic yacht rock influenced b-side. Music played / sung / recorded and privately released by Spike Wolters (an obscure Dutch musician who claims to have been "stoned every day since March 1973" :) His few self-produced Lps have always been underground and desirable with cult status in Japan but this micro-press single (some say 100 copies only) would appear to be little known, outside of Holland. A blissful hybrid of stoner rock / outsider soul and primitive electronica. Features the ambient / balearic melancholy of BABY LOVE with drum machines / waves of lo-fi synth / phased dub guitar shredding and soulful vocals sung in perfect English. Warm and hazy mood music for futuristic slackers with obvious crossover appeal to smooth AOR / obscure yacht rock / synth pop / disco not disco lovers too ;) BABY-LOVE was also given an inspired remix by contemporary tastemakers, Juju & Jordash for the Golf Channel label but we prefer the original stripped-down atmospheres of the vintage OG. The ZUGABE side is yet another drug-induced strain of 80s indie rock with funky electro percussion and vocal snippets sung in German. This is a strange little record that sits nicely beside the Blue Gas - Shadows From Nowhere Italian grail. Cool, alien-esque and thought-provoking sleeve artwork no doubt by Spike too. Seldom comes up for sale. Rare 45!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG new germany

Vinyl is in shiny, VG+ condition regardless of any hairlines / light scuffs / old pressing blemishes. Some light surface noises but this is a private press so to be expected. Audible soft pop / tick to intro and fading outro of both sides (as you can hear on our soundclip). The laminated soft card picture sleeve is in VG+ condition with ring creasing and some other general creasing from storage. Ring dirt marks. A couple of mini tears / general wear and some folding across the top open side. Distribution sticker to front sleeve. Tiny cut-outs to bottom corners but most probably part of the actual sleeve design. Rare 45!!! netherlands
