Album Review: South Side Soul is made of 7 songs, clocking in at 36 minutes in total length and it doesn't waste a second in proving its worth. The track immediately introduces you to both worlds that Wright draws from in his music, the very sultry swing of Jazz and the spiritual tonal choices from Gospel. At 2.28, you can just about hear Wright approving of the playing of his band-mates, Wendell Roberts on bass and Walter McCants on drums, really reminding you of how raw, both in its recording, but also in its emotion that the music can be. This isn't to say the recording sounds bad, far from it, as the production offers plenty of clarity, letting us really hear all 3 instruments, but there's still a great deal of personality bleeding through.
