La Sonora Veracruz is one of Mexico's longest-running and most important tropical music groups. Its history began in the port of Veracruz in the early 1950s, a major cultural hub that heavily influenced national music with Caribbean rhythms.

🎶 The Founding Era (The Barcelata Family)

• Founding: Forged in the early 1950s by Toño Barcelata.
• Initial Core: The band was built around the Barcelata family, including Toño (Leader/1st Trumpet), Ramón (2nd Trumpet), and Rodrigo (Guitar), alongside key vocalist Pepe Vallejo (Voice and Percussions).
• Early Sound: Their initial work defined a unique style of Danzón, Mambo, and Cha-cha-chá, with their first recording made in 1960 on the Orfeón label.

🎵 The Transition to Pepe Vallejo

Following a transition, vocalist Pepe Vallejo assumed artistic leadership, consolidating the group's massive success and expanding their sound into the Salsa era. They became immediate favorites in Mexico City and worked with legends such as Bienvenido Granda, Celio González, Daniel Santos, and Rolando Laserie.
