Description
Rare vintage jazz LP featuring SONNY ROLLINS FOUR on the PRESTIGE label, from 1956. Title is “SAXOPHONE COLOSSUS.” Catalog number is PRLP 7079. Monaural.
Vinyl is medium thick, with deep groove. Matrix number is hand-etched, “RVG” is also hand-etched in trailoff. The letter “C” is machine stamped on Side A in trailoff, the letter “E” is machine stamped on Side B.
Label address is “PRESTIGE RECORDS INC. * 446 W. 50th ST., N.Y.C.”
Jacket has "For free Catalog send to PRESTIGE RECORDS, INC., 447 West 50th Street, New York 19, N.Y.” on reverse at bottom.
Personnel consist of the following: SONNY ROLLINS – tenor sax; TOMMY FLANAGAN – piano; DOUG WATKINS – bass; MAX ROACH – drums.

Jacket: Jacket is in excellent condition. The only flaws are wear spots at each of the four corners. The front artwork, spine, and seams are beautiful. The reverse is very clean and white, with a few minor traces of surface wear but no serious flaws. Overall, a very fine jacket you will be proud to display.
Vinyl: Condition is Strong VG+ to VG++. Has full original gloss. There are some light scuffs and a couple minor hairlines that produce soft tics in a few places. Most notably, there is a light scratch on Side B, Track 2 (Blue Seven) that produces soft tics for approximately 1:15 which is audible on the sound clip.
This album has been played only a very small number of times and overall is in nice shape given its desirability and scarcity. Fidelity is excellent. It was stored in its original wax paper sleeve when I found it (which in my experience can contribute to light scuffing due to the harshness of the wax paper). It is not NM, but I do believe the winning bidder will be very pleased.
I am providing sound clips taken from the actual record, with a portion of each track, so that you can hear the quality of the record and also judge the portions where there are tics and how this affects play.
