SONNY ROLLINS – PLUS 4 – PRESTIGE 7038 – NYC ADDRESS ON LABEL – DG – EX/M- - MONO
Recorded at Van Gelder’s studio on March 22, 1955, this Prestige session features Sonny Rollins on tenor, Clifford Brown on trumpet, Richie Powell on piano, George Morrow on bass and Max Roach on drums. SIDE A: VALSE HOT and KISS AND RUN. SIDE B: I FEEL A SONG COMING ON; COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS and PENT-UP HOUSE. This is Sonny’s session on Prestige with the Clifford Brown Max Roach Quintet, a few months before Brown’s death. The label reads 446 W. 50th ST., N.Y.C. The initials “RVG” are stamped in the blank vinyl on both sides of the LP. This is a Deep Groove pressing and a MONO recording.
I have graded the vinyl as EX and the record jacket as M- for the following reasons. The vinyl is clear of marks except for a surface mark on Side B, Cut 3, which does not interfere with play. Except for this, it would receive a M- grading. There is no sign of wear in or around the spindle hole. The record jacket is in near mint condition with no sign of wear. The address on the record jacket is “447 West 50th Street, New York 19, N.Y. I wonder if they had problems receiving mail? I believe that the correct address was 446 West 50th St? There are no taped seams. The cover is in perfect condition and the liner notes are slightly discolored. If you have any questions, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
