Something New is an album by English rock band the Beatles, released in 1964 for the North American market only.  The album is the third Capitol LP release and fifth American album release overall by the band, following the United Artists release of A Hard Day's Night. The album includes eight songs from the original British release of A Hard Day's Night, as well as the tracks "Slow Down" and "Matchbox" from the Long Tall Sally EP and the German-language version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand". The mono version also featured the extended single mix of "I'll Cry Instead", while stereo editions included a shorter edit from the UK release of A Hard Day's Night.

Originally scheduled for 1 August 1964, the album was rush-released on 20 July 1964, ten days after the British release of A Hard Day's Night. It was released in both mono  and stereo versions. All mono mixes of the five songs duplicated from the United Artists soundtrack album are identical on both releases. Something New was the only early Capitol Beatles album to contain all tracks in true stereo. The mono release contains alternative versions of "Any Time At All" (a different mix during the instrumental bridge), "I'll Cry Instead" (with the "missing" third verse), "When I Get Home" (the line "Till I walk out that door again" during the song's bridge has a different vocal passage from the UK mono mix), "If I Fell" (Lennon's non-double-tracked introductory vocal), and "And I Love Her" (McCartney's non-double-tracked vocal).

THIS COPY is a 1st Scranton "East Coast" MONO pressing from 1964 (see Notes, below).  The vinyl shows several light scratches that can be heard in some places as background crackle, but there was no skipping.  Per Goldmine record grading guidelines the vinyl is in Very Good [VG] condition.  The original cover has some ring wear and edge rubbing, including a split in the middle of the title edgle.  Overall, though, it also remains in Very Good [VG] condition.  The original blue inner sleeve, which advertses other Capitol albums (and cautions you to change your needle with the tag line "It is better to change you needle that your record collection." ;-), is a bit soiled from handling and has small splits in the bottom and one side edge.  Overall, the inner sleeve is in Very Good [G] condition.

This is an East Coast 1st pressing pressed by Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Scranton PA identified by the capital letters I over AM inside a triangle stamped into its runouts / dead wax.

There are three pressing variations:

(Variant 8) * First ''East Coast'' pressings have the credit ''Nicholas'' for track B5 instead of ''Nicolas.''.
Deep groove is of 1.5" diameter in the center of the label.
The track listing is left aligned under the 'O' of Something on Side A, and the 'S' on Side B.

* First ''West Coast'' pressings have this credit correctly. The tracklisting on the label tends to the right hand side and aligns with the ''M'' of ''Something'' from the title

* Second ''West Coast'' pressings have the credit correctly too. The tracklisting on the label is moved to the middle of the label.

The covers of all three variations are the same.
Original first presssings were issued with light blue inner sleeves.
