S.O. 36 is a ultra rare sampler of punk by a legendary limited privat pressing of the underground and independent club and discothek S.O. 36 in Berlin from 1978/1979. 13. AUGUST 1978 dedicated punk bands an ironically live concert to the 17th birthday of the wall of Berlin. The limited privat underground Edition, totally of 200, was pressed in UK by Ignition Record. About the S.O. 36:

The S.O. 36 signed a post office district in Berlin, in the center of Berlin - in Kreuzberg. Kreuzberg has two post-office districts: the SW 61 + the SO 36. The post office district S.W. 61 means: BERLIN POST OFFICE DISTRICT Süd-West 61 / South-West 61, presents the traditional and rich people of Berlin + S.O. 36 means BERLIN POST OFFICE DISTRICT Süd-Ost 36 / South-East 36, a poor people and worker district. In the end of the sixities and beginning of the seventies started in empty rooms at the Oranienstrasse 190 by the Heinrichsplatz the underground + independent Discothek S.O. 36

History:

In 1861 started S.O. 36 as a beer-garden pub. It closed in the twenties and opened new as a cinema with 660 places, one of the first in Berlin. In the midsixties closed the cinema. It was the century of the wall, ! - born on 13. august 1961 - ! and  - the generation of the 68. The wall split the district S.O. 36 in East and West. A few action artists of art started in the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies in the empty rooms an art gallery with music experience. It was the scene and time of student protest + scene of alternatives. In the end of the seventies you find at first music concerts, at first punk. It was the punk meeting point of UK + german punk bands in Berlin, like "Tödliche Doris" and "Einstürzende Neubauten". In this time a young party guru and art painter "Martin Kippenberger" (1953-1997) makes the S.O.36 to his entertaintment home. Today you find artworks of "Martin Kippenberger" in museums + galleries in New York, Zurich, Amsterdam, Munich, London and other towns worldwide. In this time of punk area produced the S.O.36 the first records. This sampler is one of the early punk sampler in Germany + is a ironically live concert about the 17th birthday of the wall of Berlin + the splitting of the post office district S.O. 36, on 13th august 1978. The old + demaged building was the reason for the police - after a hard conflict - to close the S.O. 36 in 1987, an inconvenient + revolution situation in Berlin. The S.O. 36 came back in 1990 and worked since 1994 professionel under a social comitee, the S.O. 36 e.V. (Sub Opus 36 e.V.)
