Original first pressing RARE Polish LP issued by Muza in 1973. STEREO.
Fragile gatefold sleeve is in VG+/EX ( inside ) cond. - medium shelfwear on fragile gatefold sleeve, spine was previously cellotaped, it was removed with no damage , there is no splits
Vinyl is EX- ( light wear, paper scuffs on side A, B looks better )
Skaldowie was one of the longest lasting and most prolific Polish rock bands. Like most bands that lasted through the 1960’s, 1970’s, and beyond, they at least dabbled with progressive rock in the early 1970’s, and then moved towards more commercial music. This album is allegedly their proggiest, and it’s pretty good. The big draw is the 18-minute title track, which of course goes through a lot of changes, but it’s clear that it’s more of a sonic collage or loosely connected suite of singing and jamming than a full-fledged and well-designed epic. Nevertheless, it has a great sound (the organ is particularly glorious) and some great playing (you could call the violin player the Pagani of Poland). They throw in some classical motifs (Pictures at an Exhibition and the William Tell Overture, so I think we can guess which groups they might have been listening to at the time), but the track is mostly appealing for the performances, shifts, and sound, and not the composition. It’s a good piece for sure that anyone into the seventies vibe or wanting to hear some Polish prog would enjoy.
