The fabulous, care-free days when the Charleston was all the rage, and movie stars were either vamps or flappers are brought back in M-g-m"s bit of musical nostalgia, "SINGIN' IN THE RAIN."

And M-G-M Records has captured all the wonderful tunes - plus the great star performances in this album of the hits from the Sound Track of the Technicolor Musical.  "SINGIN' IN THE RAIN" is the story of Hollywood in the roaring twenties, and the amusing adventures of screen hero Gene Kelly, his pal Donald O'Connor, and the girl friend Debbie Reynolds amid the production of one of those new "talkies." From the first big premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre to the last big kiss at the fade out, there's singing and dancing galore, all spiced with the colorful costumes and carousing customs of Hollywood when it was young.

Gene Kelly, whose most recent Sound Track album is "An American In Paris" sings the title song as a gay but rather watery solo, because he actually is singing in the rain! He also gives us two lovely ballads: You Were Meant For Me and You Are My Lucky Star. In the latter, you'll hear Debbie come in for a brief reply.

Gene and Donald O'Connor sing a pair of cute duets. First is Fit As A Fiddle, and then comes Moses, which in the picture, begins as a diction lesson and winds up as a sizzling dance routine. Make 'Em Laugh, Don's solo in this album, is all that the title implies, a real laugh-getter.

Debbie's fans will be happy to see that she hasn't paused for a minute in her fast-moving rise to film stardom. This is her first stellar role, although she has already charmed us with an appearance in the "Two Weeks With Love" album. Here she sings All I Do Is Dream Of You as part of a "hotcha girlie" chorus, while Gene gives us his version of the song as a ballad. Finally, all three stars have a great time with the bright and bouncy Good Morning.

Producer Arthur Freed penned most of the songs with composer Nacio Herb Brown, with an assist by Al Hoffman and Al Goodhart.
